The Linguistic Society of America (LSA) was founded in 1924 to advance the scientific study of language. Linguistics has developed dramatically in the intervening years, greatly expanding the understanding of human language.

This site is intended for users interested in learning more about phonetics. This site is organized into three areas: consonants,vowels and diphthongs. Each area contains an EPA chart for both sound areas. Clicking on a specific symbol within a chart will provide the following phonetic information:

CAL is a private, non-profit organization: a group of scholars and educators who use the findings of linguistics and related sciences in identifying and addressing language-related problems. CAL carries out a wide range of activities including research, teacher education, analysis and dissemination of information, design and development of instructional materials, technical assistance, conference planning, program evaluation, and policy analysis.
