The IASO was founded as a world-wide 'umbrella' organisation of national Angelman syndrome associations. It is politically neutral, with no discrimination as to race, sex, colour or religion, and is non-profit-making. One of its main duties is to help translate and distribute written aterial on AS in several languages. To fulfill this goal in practice, it will need the help of many individuals who are prepared to do the translating. This has already been done privately, on a small scale in connection with some web sites devoted to AS
