The Society for Neuroscience is a nonprofit membership organization of basic scientists and physicians who study the brain and nervous system. Neuroscience includes the study of brain development, sensation and perception, learning and memory, movement, sleep, stress, aging and neurological and psychiatric disorders. The AANEM was founded in 1953 and the membership has grown steadily over the years to 4902 (as of 12/14/04) physicians. The primary goal of the AANEM is serve physicians who diagnose and treat patients with disorders of muscle and nerve, extend the knowledge of electrodiagnostic medicine, and improve the quality of patient care. This is accomplished through programs in education, research, and quality assurance.
